The Belgians by Karen Hayes wins the Foreign Voices Poetry Competition

December 18, 2017

We’re delighted to announce that Karen Hayes has won the Foreign Voices Poetry Competition with The Belgians.

The quality of the poems entered this year was very high and the judges had the delightful though difficult task to decide upon the winning poem.

The judges commented:

The Belgians stood out because its multilayered use of the migration theme and its beautiful use of words and rhythm. Karen Hayes uses the maximum number of lines and holds one’s attention throughout. The Belgians ends with a wonderful indirect twist which takes your breath away.’
