A Launch in Pictures featuring Norbert Hirschhorn &
One gorgeous room with a view, one marvellous author, one dashing pianist and a wonderful audience created the perfect ambiance to celebrate the launch of Norbert Hirschhorn’s To Sing Away the Darkest Days – Poems Re-imagined from Yiddish Folksongs.
If you were lucky to be there, you know what I’m talking about, if you couldn’t be there on the night, you can enjoy these pictures.
First of all, no launch is complete without a marvelous audience.
The books, aren’t they smashing? And they were selling fast!
Norbert Hirschhorn and Dannie Abse admiring the finished product.
The pianist, Michael L Roberts, who added to the party atmosphere by playing Yiddish folksong tunes in a catching jazzy rendition
The publisher invites the author on stage…
Norbert Hirschhorn in full flow, reciting his lovely poems...
and giving us interesting clues about the why and how of Yiddish folksongs that inspired him.
It was a remarkable evening celebrating a wonderful poetry collection which is also a necessary historical document.
The author was kept very busy signing his book.
We thank everyone at the London Jewish Cultural Centre and especially Irene Newton for hosting this event.
We also thank the Royal College of Music for providing an excellent pianist.
Many thanks to Cynthia Myntti and Shelagh Weir who took the pictures.
If you weren’t able to come to the launch but would like to purchase a copy you can do so from this page.
