Yesterday, 3 November, an enthusiastic audience applauded loudly each of the three poems read by Arnold Jansen op de Haar:
srebrenica
yugoslav requiem
meisjes van sarajevo/ girls of sarajevo
These poems are from the collection Yugoslav Requiem and hearing the last poem in its original Dutch followed by the English translation was greatly appreciated. We even got the chance to see Arnold wearing his red beret.
Afterwards Arnold spoke with fans and signed copies of Yugoslav Requiem.
If you couldn’t make the lunch date this time, you can read girls of sarajevo and listen to Arnold reciting the poem yugoslav requiem.
The Poetry Lunch: Echoes through time, reflected on wars throughout the ages by poets from different backgrounds. It was a new initiative organised by Martin Colthorpe as part of Poetry International at the Royal Festival Hall.
